Main Ingredients
- 1 lb. bulk Italian sausage (sweet or hot)
- 1 cup chopped onion
- 1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper
- 1/2 cup chopped red or orange bell pepper (or a combination of the two)
- 1/2 cup marinara sauce
- 1 – 2 TBSP Zesty Italian salad dressing (like Wishbone)
- 1 – 12 ct. package Hawaiian rolls, whole package split in half (top and bottom halves intact)
- 10 slices provolone cheese
- 1 TBSP grated Parmesan cheese
Butter Topping
- 5 TBSP salted butter, melted
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 2 tsp dried parsley
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking the sliders.
- Cook Sausage: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown the Italian sausage, breaking it up as it cooks until fully cooked through. Remove sausage with a slotted spoon and set aside in a bowl.
- Sauté Vegetables: In the same skillet, add chopped onion and bell peppers. Cook on medium-high heat until the onion is translucent and the peppers are tender. Remove from heat.
- Combine Sausage Mixture: Return the cooked sausage to the skillet with the vegetables. Add marinara sauce and 1 to 2 tablespoons of zesty Italian salad dressing. Stir well to combine and set aside.
- Assemble Sliders: Place the bottom half of the entire Hawaiian roll package in a 9×13-inch disposable aluminum pan or a pan that fits the rolls snugly. Lay 5 slices of provolone cheese over the bottom half, overlapping slightly.
- Add Sausage Layer: Evenly spread the sausage and pepper mixture over the provolone cheese layer. Sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese on top of the sausage mixture.
- Top Cheese and Rolls: Add the remaining 5 slices of provolone cheese over the Parmesan. Place the top half of the Hawaiian rolls on top, keeping the package intact.
- Prepare Butter Topping: In a small bowl, mix melted butter with minced garlic and dried parsley. Brush this garlic parsley butter generously over the tops of the rolls. Cover the pan tightly with aluminum foil.
- Bake Sliders: Bake in the preheated oven for 15 to 20 minutes or until the sliders are heated through and the cheese is melted. Remove from oven and serve warm.
Notes
- Do not pull individual rolls apart; keep the top and bottom halves intact for easy assembly.
- You can adjust the amount of zesty Italian dressing to suit your flavor preference.
- For a spicier option, use hot Italian sausage instead of sweet.
- Serve these sliders warm for the best taste and texture.
- If you prefer, substitute provolone with mozzarella or another melting cheese.
