Ingredients

Scale

For the Sliders

  • 1 pound deli roast beef, thinly sliced
  • 12 slices provolone cheese
  • 1 package Hawaiian sweet rolls, 12 count
  • 1 cup French fried onions
  • 1 tablespoon butter, softened (for greasing the baking dish)

For the Seasoning Sauce

  • 1 packet Au Jus Seasoning mix, separated
  • 8 tablespoons butter (for melting)
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds, separated
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking the sliders.
  2. Prepare Baking Dish: Grease an 8×11 or 9×13 inch baking dish on the sides and bottom with softened butter to prevent sticking.
  3. Assemble Bottom Layer: Slice the Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally to separate tops and bottoms. Place the bottom halves evenly in the greased baking dish.
  4. Add Cheese and Beef: Layer six slices of provolone cheese over the bottoms of the rolls. Then evenly distribute all the sliced roast beef atop the cheese layer.
  5. Add Onions and Top Layer: Sprinkle 1 cup of French fried onions over the beef, followed by the remaining six slices of provolone cheese. Finally, place the top halves of the Hawaiian rolls on top.
  6. Make Butter Mixture: In a microwave-safe bowl, combine 8 tablespoons butter, 1 tablespoon of the au jus seasoning mix, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, and half of the sesame seeds. Microwave until melted, then whisk until smooth.
  7. Brush Rolls: Use a pastry brush to generously coat the top of the rolls with the melted butter mixture. Sprinkle the remaining sesame seeds evenly on top.
  8. Bake Sliders: Bake in the preheated oven for 18-20 minutes until the cheese is melted and the tops of the rolls are golden brown.
  9. Prepare Dipping Sauce: While the sliders bake, pour the remaining au jus seasoning packet and 1½ to 2 cups water into a small saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium heat, then reduce to a simmer and cook for about 5 minutes until slightly thickened, stirring occasionally.
  10. Serve: Remove sliders from oven and cut into individual sandwiches. Serve warm with the hot au jus dipping sauce on the side.

Notes

  • You can substitute provolone with mozzarella or Swiss cheese if preferred.
  • For a spicy kick, add a few drops of hot sauce to the butter mixture.
  • Make sure to separate the seasoning packet as directed for proper flavor layering.
  • The French fried onions add a nice crunch but can be omitted for a softer texture.
  • Serve immediately for best taste and texture.
