Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Melt Butter: In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
  3. Prepare Chocolate Filling: Whisk together sugar, flour, and cocoa powder. Gradually mix into melted butter. Slowly add milk, stirring continuously, and cook until thickened (5-7 minutes).
  4. Temper Egg Yolks: Add a spoonful of the hot mixture to temper egg yolks. Return yolks to the saucepan. Cook for another 2-3 minutes, stir in vanilla, and remove from heat.
  5. Fill Pie Crust: Pour chocolate filling into the pre-baked crust.
  6. Make Meringue: Beat egg whites with cream of tartar until soft peaks form. Gradually add sugar and beat to stiff peaks.
  7. Top Pie: Spread meringue over the pie, sealing edges.
