Ingredients

Scale

Chicken

  • 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Tortellini and Sauce

  • 1 (9 oz) package cheese tortellini
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Fresh basil, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chicken: Season both sides of the chicken breasts evenly with garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper to ensure a well-flavored base.
  2. Cook the Chicken: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chicken breasts and cook for 5 to 6 minutes per side, until they develop a golden-brown crust and are cooked through. Remove the chicken from the skillet and let it rest to retain juices.
  3. Cook the Tortellini: While the chicken rests, cook the cheese tortellini according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside, ready to be combined with the sauce and chicken.
  4. Make the Sauce: In the same skillet, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1 to 2 minutes until fragrant but not browned. Pour in the heavy cream and stir in the grated Parmesan cheese. Allow the mixture to simmer gently for 3 to 4 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
  5. Combine the Dish: Slice the rested chicken into strips and add them back to the skillet with the creamy sauce. Toss in the cooked tortellini, mixing thoroughly to coat everything with the flavorful sauce. For a spicy kick, sprinkle in red pepper flakes as desired.
  6. Garnish and Serve: Plate the creamy chicken tortellini and top with freshly chopped basil to add a bright herbal note and a pop of color. Serve immediately and enjoy the rich flavors.

Notes

  • Use fresh basil for best flavor; if unavailable, dried basil can be substituted at 1/3 the amount.
  • To make it lighter, substitute heavy cream with half-and-half, but the sauce will be less rich.
  • Ensure the chicken is cooked to an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) for safety.
  • This dish can be prepared ahead by cooking chicken and tortellini separately, then reheating in the sauce before serving.
  • Adding vegetables like spinach or sun-dried tomatoes can enhance nutrition and flavor.
