4.7 from 80 reviews

Bloomin’ Grilled Apples are a deliciously caramelized dessert featuring tender, cinnamon-sugar coated apples stuffed with caramel and pecans, then grilled to perfection and topped with creamy vanilla ice cream for a warm and indulgent treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Apples

  • 4 apples

Butter and Sugar Mixture

  • 2 tbsp. melted butter
  • 1 tbsp. cinnamon-sugar

Filling and Topping

  • 1/2 cup caramel, plus more for drizzling
  • 1/3 cup chopped pecans
  • Vanilla ice cream, for serving

Instructions

  1. Prepare the apples: Slice off the top quarter of each apple and carefully scoop out the cores, creating a hollow space for filling.
  2. Score the apples: Using a paring knife, make a deep horizontal cut around the center of each apple, then flip the apples and make narrow vertical cuts all around them, ensuring not to cut through the bottom, creating a blooming effect when grilled.
  3. Brush and fill: In a small bowl, mix melted butter with cinnamon-sugar; brush this mixture all over the apples thoroughly. Fill the hollow centers with caramel and sprinkle chopped pecans into the filling.
  4. Grill the apples: Wrap each apple individually in foil and place them on a preheated grill. Cook for about 15 minutes or until the apples are tender and caramel has melted.
  5. Serve: Remove the apples from the grill and unwrap carefully. Top each with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and drizzle additional caramel sauce over the top before serving.

Notes

  • Choose firm apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp to hold their shape during grilling.
  • Be careful not to cut all the way through the bottom of the apples to keep the filling inside.
  • Use heavy-duty foil to prevent burning and to contain melting caramel.
  • If you don’t have a grill, these can be baked in a preheated oven at 375°F for 20-25 minutes covered with foil.
  • For a nut-free version, omit pecans or substitute with seeds like pumpkin seeds.
